AU REVOIR DOMINICA THE LAND OF BEAUTY
BUT NOT BEFORE THE CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES
BUT NOT BEFORE THE CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES
By now my friends, family, and fellow Labourites will know that I'm here on island quite often. My original mission - to help establish a galvanize factory on island has been accomplished. There are still many homes to get their roofs, and even more to get their drop-ceilings, their flooring fixed... and finishes completed. Unless a household had good insurance this could take a while so have God's faith.
From my verandah at a good hotel in Canefield I can observe a microcosm of an emerging Dominica. Compared to earlier visits there are fowls all over the streets and doves on the wires all strung from post to post. The other birds, and I mean those that fly, can be seen picking away at fruits. The first crop of mangoes has come and gone and the real one is on the way with all the trees in flower and the bees doing their job.
Trucks are moving space on the EO Leblanc Highway from Dominica Strong red to a myriad of other colours and sizes. I am very concerned at the tonnage being carried on our roads and over our bridges out of the quarries. I met a driver this week who admitted to hauling 27 tons of crushed stone. Government authorities must put a limit on the load allowed and enforce it. Or lose our roads.
Most if not all repaired roofs have been done the right way, very small yves, 35 degree pitches, and screwed on galvanize sheeting. The hurricane straps and ties strategically placed suggest preparation for the next storm. There will be less trauma in the next round for Dominica.
The main highway and road networks are in pretty good shape. The airports are improved and the ports largely decongested. Everyone seems to own a car in this land of beauty and the intra island taxi system works well. Hundreds of citizens can be seen entering the capital city Roseau daily. During the day the taxis are working the tourists routes to Trafalgar, Mero, Scotts Head, and Emerald Pool. Nearly everyday thousands of visitors arrive on these mega ships as they dock in the city. New groceries have opened or reopened and food, both local and imported is readily available. The market is loaded with fresh food and fishmongers are to be seen all along the seaside selling fresh fish. Local eggs and poultry, fresh pork, mutton and beef is available daily.
Garbage collection is reliable, old derelict vehicles are being removed and crushed. The people are at work. Criminal activity is minuscule and does not grab the front pages of the local newspapers. Dominicans are happy again.
And for me, just as I promised, best quality galvanize is now available - no shortages, at a best price of TWELVE DOLLARS PER FOOT, in ten colours at any length, exact, with screws at the VARMA FACTORY 4D site Goodwill 448 1680.
I am happy to have played my part in making best quality galvanize available, eliminating hoarding, and forcing the price down.
Now is time to celebrate quality national leadership and Dr the Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit and the Dominica Labour Party as we prepare for a redwash in 2020 or earlier.

I will be at Londonderry. Hope to see you there for the Conference of Delegates and Rally. All Shall Eat.
