If an election were held today!

FELLOW LABOURITES

If an election were held today, the Dominica Labour Party will be returned to government with a comfortable majority.

I read amusedly the rubbish making the rounds in the diaspora including a blue map of Dominica said to have been posted by my younger brother Christian.

Sadly my brother is out of touch with Dominica and like the disgruntled bourgeois of Roseau continues to live in a land of make belief sharing pie in the sky amongst each other.

The elder Volney men are more objective and have feet on the Dominica ground. I certainly can speak for myself. I am a Labourite and a proud one at that. I found myself at the Londonderry Conference of Delegates held in the constituency of Wesley next to Marigot.

The 8000 strong crowd was a clear indication that our party is heading in the right political direction and will grow from strength to strength in the lead up to the next General Election likely to be held at years end.

The strategic move to introduce the ones to take Dominica into the next 20 years is pure political genius and gives the candidate and the voters an opportunity to know each other.
Obviously some would've been disappointed and that is normal but a good person does not have to be a Parliamentary Rep to serve Dominica. Some very good Ministers have not been called to further constituency duty. This is not to say that the Prime Minister does not recognize their worth or has no
future role for them in Dominica's development. The Political Leader is called to lead and in the politics has a duty to the nation, the party, and the electorate to ensure that the best persons now available are offered at the polls. This noble approach to politics ensures continuity and allows for new blood new enthusiasm and change that disgruntled party members have called for.

The slate is a mixture of young and experience and brings a fresh breath of air to the politics of Dominica. The fifty/fifty gender blend speaks volumes to the Political Leader's high regard for the place of women. Women have played a significant role in PM's upbringing as have they in my own life. We both trust women to deliver for we know they don't fail. The rally cry must be for Labour women to rise to deliver a great victory in the north, in the south, in the east and in the west. We feel very confident of a great victory and must all chip in to ensure that our party and our candidates are well funded and supported, and we must prepare Street by street to take the necessary steps to make sure that on Election Day we win, and win convincingly.
