Over $22,000,000.00 is spent by Government on in citizens to further their education. This is a hallmark compared to what other parties in Dominica contributed to its citizens for education.
Last Tuesday, Education Minister Petter Saint-Jean met with some of the beneficiaries of the financial assistance for the academic year 2019-2020 at the Newtown Primary School.
Saint-Jean said that over 500 students are being financially assisted by the government at various learning institutions abroad.
“It is actually 578 young Dominicans that the government of Dominica is actually paying tuition, housing, in some cases tuition only and some of them on full scholarships.”
According to him, it is expected that the new budget will be presented in parliament “somewhere about end of July, early August…” since the financial year ends every June.
Saint-Jean also revealed that for 2019-2020, the Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has already given a commitment amounting to more than $10 million to support the education sector even before going to the parliament.
