This is a reminder of what the UWP did to Dominica in four and a half years. So we need to continue keeping them out.
1. EC$276M Deficit on the Consolidated Fund.
2. EC$87M overdraft at the NBD EC$37M over and above the limit approved by Parliament.
3. EC$53M of unpaid cheques in the treasury.
4. EC$9M in unprocessed LPOs.
5. EC$33M owed to the DSS. In four and a half years only one payment made to DSS.
6. EC$14M in unpaid gratuities and pension to retired public officers.
7. EC$81M of debt arrears to International institutions (interest and Principal)
8.EC$42.8M owed to regional and international institutions.
9. EC$140M borrowed from Trinidad banks at 14% effective interest rates the first installment of which was defaulted.
10 EC$35M of DBMC debt.
11 All loans with local finance institutions were in arrears amounting to EC$11.8M.
12 The UWP government owed the OECS Supreme Court EC$13.6M.
13 Salaries to public officer were always late. In December 1999 the UWP Government utilized EC$15M from the credits of ST. Lucia at the ECCB to pay local salaries to public officer the UWP defaulted of the repayment.
I can go on and on but time does not permit.
UWP placed the country in a financial precipice and it had to take this administration to takes it out.
The European Union, the CDB, the IMF and World Bank had given up on the UWP.
Do we want to go back to those days??
No way we are not turning back.
