“Last night My husband went to the airport to collect our guest . At the entrance to Marigot the road was blocked with trees and debris and so he parked the truck and decided to walk to the airport in the dark.
At the entrance to the airport the police stopped him and after twenty minutes of waiting allowed him to go and meet our guest. Another man who had not visited for decades joined them and they walked back to Marigot with four big cases . They walked over a mile with those heavy cases and then were harassed by people shouting that they had been paid to come and vote . Our visitor’s asthma was aggravated by the smoke.
They were showered with stones when trying to circumnavigate the burning blockade at marigot bridge . Three of them eventually paid 150usd for two rides with marigot drivers through the bush to get back to Harrys truck .
They got home after 11pm smelling of smoke and quite traumatised . Their opinion is that some of the marigot guys appeared to be being paid, organised and incited to cause disruption . Police need to act to clear the road . people are being terrorised and threatened and there appears to be extortion going on.
This is wrong .... stop it . Clear the road. Shout if you want wave your placards and blow your horns, state your case. Argue your point. But hurting people, threatening and damaging the country’s reputation does no good for your cause.
Please pray for peace in Dominica and wisdom for those directing the police.”
