254 families will receive keys soon

Prime Minister of Dominica, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit announced on Sunday that 254 families from the Laplaine/Delices and Grandfond/ San Sauver constituencies will receive keys to their new homes this week.

The apartment complex which will house the families are part of Government’s housing revolution built by Montreal Management under the CBI programme.

Similar apartment complexes have been built at Castle Bruce, Portsmouth and Cotton Hill.

The Prime Minister said that the families receiving keys are deserving and qualifying.

Following the devastating results of Hurricane Maria, the government of Dominica has continued to address the need for safe and resilient housing facilities for the families that reside in the country. In line with this, the government has partnered with Montreal Management Consultants Est. Ltd. to develop and construct 5 housing projects that cover the east side of Dominica.

One of these is the Grand Fond Housing Project consisting of 2 buildings with 33 residential units each. Each building has (9) one-bedroom units, (20) two-bedroom units, and (4) three-bedroom units totaling 66 apartment units.

The buildings will be constructed with:

Modern and climate resilient structures designed to withstand hurricanes and seismic forces.

Reinforced concrete and roofing that ensures water tightness and stability.
Windows that are made of impact resistant glasses and certified hurricane proof.
Fitted kitchens and high-quality bathrooms.

“We felt that as the Government we have to ensure that every house we build post Hurricane Maria is built with resilience so that families can stay in their homes, be safe, feel safe and survive the hurricane with no fear of the roof being blown off or the concrete caving in.” – Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit (The Sun, 2019)
