"TREATING" CASE AGAINST GOVERNMENT LEAVES UWP LIKE A CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF

After the UWP lost the 2014 general elections it took the government to court for "Treating"

In basic terms, "Treating" is defined as providing alcohol, food, drink, or entertainment to someone to corruptly influence him/her to vote or not to vote.

The government fought against the case being heard in the magistrate court but two months ago the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) ruled that the case should go to court.

May 13, 2021, has been set by the court for the case to be heard. As required by law the defense attorney for the government has requested the evidence from UWP for review.

It's almost a month since the request was made and nothing has been delivered. One would have thought that with a snap of the finger the evidence would be on the attorney's desk.

To date, not a piece of paper has been submitted. After several follow-up calls from the attorney's office, the UWP is hinting that Hurricane Maria may have destroyed the evidence.

With no evidence available the attorney representing the UWP has removed herself from the case. So now the UWP being without a lawyer and without evidence stays like a cat on a hot tin roof.
