They Must Face It

They Must  Face It.

The protest action suggested by Lennox Linton again fell flat. This though has become a fixture in LL's organized protests, and it is telling about the charisma of the leader to pull even his supporters to action.

Clearance Christian made an excellent observation again, that in constituencies around the epicentre of Roseau where over 9000 votes were cast for the UWP during the 2019 election, LL and the UWP failed to muster 300 people to a protest.

This shouts out weakness. Without numbers at your party's activities, it appears weak. Period!

I agree that any charismatic leader would be able to ease that fear among his/her people and mobilize the masses.

Mike Douglas was able to under much fear and intimidation by the Miss Charles-led gov"t. Ms. Charles was able to do it under the stifling likeability of Patrick John. These two past leaders were able to use one issue to mobilize the masses and uproot supporters from the other side. With so many issues floating in Dominica, LL has not been able to mobilize enough masses at any of his protests to make a bold statement Isn"t that telling?

History has recorded scores of leaders who under more taxing conditions were able to move the masses into action.

Firstly, I believe the UWP is approaching the airport situation wrongly. It should have never presented itself as being seemingly adverse to the building of the international airport despite its financing mechanisms or otherwise because most Dominicans would love to have an international airport, and don"t give a rat's ass how it is built, once it is built  Organizing a protest to 'stop the bad airport' is silly, to say the least.

I strongly believe if LL hadn't inherited the religious bunch of UWP supporters, his party would be suffering more than APP.  Under his watch, many people are losing hope and are dissenting from the party.

LL"s best hope to have brought UWP over the threshold was at the 2019 election. The masses were fed up and revved up. They were ready to push LL through until his careless, shady meddling with diplomatic passports, something he vehemently rejected and criticized, surfaced, and his foolish decision to lead his party into an election that he knew was disproportionate due to lack of proper ER, again something he preached against with much venom.

Many UWPites are in denial thinking that LL will lead the UWP to the promised land in 2024 but I doubt it. LL is not only suffering from a likeability defect that has become so important In our present Caribbean politics, but he is also not charismatic enough and usually comes out as being too aggressive in his approaches.

LL failure to repeatedly mobilized the masses into action especially in a country's environment so plagued with issues should be the litmus test that should be used by UWPites to see if LL is the right fit for the 2024 ticket.

If the party is not ready to make these bold introspections, it will continue to eat scrapes in the yard and belch out hot air on Q95 beyond 2024.
