RUBiS Tries to hold A Gun to Dominican's Heads

Effective September 16, 2021, employees of Rubis West Indies Limited Dominica will be laid off for a period of three months as the distribution company of petroleum, LPG and lubricants, suspend the sale of fuel in Dominica and await a response from the Government for their request to increase gas prices by $1.20 per gallon.

Management of Rubis, sent letters to members of staff dated August 16, 2021, informed staff of the company’s decision to temporarily withdraw its services, pointing to a loss of earnings for nearly five years.

According to the company, the current regulated fuel prices in Dominica mandated by the Ministry of Trade requires that Rubis sells fuel below its acquisition cost, which the company says results in a loss of money for every gallon of fuel sold.

Sources inside of Government and Rubis confirmed that there are ongoing talks, however, Rubis wants an immediate increase in fuel prices without presenting financials.

1.  Rubis is seeking to increase the price per gallon by $1.20, which would raise the selling prices to $14.00 per gallon.

2.  To date Rubis has not furnished the Government with audited accounts, yet they request an immediate increase that will drive prices up.

3. They claim they are selling below acquisition costs, they seem to be the only company selling below acquisition costs.  Rubis needs to reduce their overheads.  It is clear they came to Dominica by cutting prices and now need to reduce their overhead.

4. Government in good faith has provided Rubis with relief since negotiations began, pending the receipt of proof of loss and measures to mitigate further losses.

5. Rubis are now acting as terrorists and are forcing the gas stations representing them, to pay extremely high rental of equipment fees.

The management of Rubis in Barbados are trying to force the hand of the Government.

Shame of you Rubis, this plan will backfire, Government should buy out your equipment at the lowest price and send you packing.

Leaked documents to be provided soon.
