Melissa Poponne-Skerrit: A Visionary Leader Transforming Roseau

Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, the Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Central Constituency, is spearheading the charge to transform Dominica's capital city into a modern, vibrant metropolitan hub. With her unwavering commitment to progress and her vision for a better future, Poponne-Skerrit has been the driving force behind the eagerly awaited Roseau Enhancement Project.

Securing Funding for the Project

In November 2023, Poponne-Skerrit, who also serves as Dominica's Housing Minister, played a crucial role in securing a US$41 million loan from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to fund the project. She emphasized the favorable terms of the loan, including a 2.5% interest rate, an eight-year grace period, and a repayment span of 28 years.

"I fully support the approval of the US 41-million-dollar loan from the Saudi Fund for Development, and I am particularly excited about this long-awaited project," Skerrit said.

 "This project has been in the pipeline for many years, but over the past few years, I was determined to get this off the ground so we can finally modernize our city of Roseau."

Enhancing Roseau's Appeal and Opportunities

Poponne-Skerrit's vision for the Roseau Enhancement Project extends beyond just infrastructure improvements. She believes that by elevating the city's allure, attracting increased private investments, and enriching tourism offerings, Roseau can become a thriving economic hub.

"Our goal is to breathe new life into our city, enhancing its aesthetic appeal, fostering economic growth by providing our citizens with a city we can all be proud of," she added.

Prioritizing Citizen Needs and Accessibility

At the heart of Poponne-Skerrit's vision lies a deep concern for the well-being and accessibility of Roseau's citizens. The project will include the construction of new covered drains, enhanced sidewalks with seating, upgraded lighting, and expanded roads for increased parking.

The roads will be widened as well, everything will be wheelchair accessible, the sidewalks will be improved, the drains will be completely covered, you will have a clear skyline because all the wires will be placed underground, and additional parking," she disclosed.
